(via tazar) Note from Ron:I could not agree more and I am floored when people don’t do this. Its like they just found out how the internet works.
[Update] My point here really is about Tumblr users. I like to have multiple pages open and I don’t see a point in a link taking me away from my dash only to come back an not be in the same place. I actually open 95+% of links in a new tab (Maxthon click+drag method) so this doesn’t bother me personally because I am going around it regardless.
Kayfabe: Whenever I notice a site that opens a link in a new window, I get the feeling that person REALLY wants me to stay on their site.
Ron: I get that, but I view it like I really do want to be on that website and why direct me away.

No no no! Don’t override the default behavior of my web browser. If I want to open a link in a new window, I’ll open it in a new window (or cmd-click it into a new tab, more likely). target=”_blank” breaks the back button, kills my focus as a reader, and is just plain annoying.
Never set a target unless you’ve got a really good reason to.
